The test rig had been designed in order to apply n. 3 loads and to increase these forces simultaneously up to the target values. Each ram is equipped with a load cell and a linear displacement transducer. The movement of the stems is automatically driven by the software through an algorithm that involves a closed control loop between the valve of the cylinder – the displacement value – the force measured.
Moreover other three displacement transducers are available to measure the deflection of the centre line according FIA8862:2009. It is possible to use only one cylinder as well as any couple. The time to get to the target value can be decided before the test. The load history (force vs time) is kept linear for the three rams. The maximum force applicable with the pulling stems is 25 kN, the maximum force applicable with the pushing stems configuration is 50 kN.
The software has been developed by Newton with AD Engineering in order to complete both the FIA and SFI tests. The software has been written to control the movement of the n. 3 cylinders and to acquire all the 6 displacement transducers + n. 3 load cells. In addition it can calculate the energy [J] during the deformation of the seat. The software can be customized to change the speed of the quasi static test or the ramp for the application of the load.
